A few Items can be checked off ...

So it is taking me a bit longer than I hoped but I am slowly getting through my to-do list of projects around the house.  Here is a peak at two finished projects ...

The Paper Lantern ...

I finished this in December, right now its hanging sans light bulb in the bedroom, but I might move it onto the porch once warmer weather comes.

My wine cork boot mat ...

This might not have even been on my first list, but I finally bought a hot glue gun and created my boot mat yesterday. It will be perfect when all the snow is melting.  I just hope Stella doesnt eat it all first ( I had to fight to get a cork away from her this morning ... which reminds me 3 people who read my blog, we got a dog ... stella, I added her pic below for your viewing pleasure!)

A Hefty TO DO List

It is a slow workday ... which got me thinking about all the projects I want to do at home this winter ... and its a hefty list ... I figured I would get organized and maybe make a Christmas list to give to Santa. Here is what I need ...

Project #1 - day-bed for the porch

It is all constructed and now it just needs a mattress ... or foam and two feather beds and while I am at it, maybe a vintage quilt to put on top of everything. The picture is from where I got the idea, sadly mine doesnt look like that ... yet)

need: foam
want: a vintage quilt or bedspread

Project #2 - end table

During one of my runs I came back with a small table that someone was throwing out (much to my boyfriends chagrin who is afraid I am turning into a hoarder) ... I want to paint this a bright glossy color and put it on the outside porch next to my day-bed

need: valspar spray primer, valspar high gloss spray
want: a power sander for a quick buffing of the finish.

Project #3 - etched glass vase

I saw this the other day on young house love and I LOVE that I can make my own etched glass ... how fun!

need: armour etch creme

Project #4 - curtains for the kitchen and living room

After 2 plus years of living in my apartment I can't stand my lack of window treatments any longer, I scored two curtains off of ebay (anthro and urban for 20 bucks each!!) that I want to cut up and make valances for the dining room and kitchen ... since I cannot sew to save my life I want to use stitch witchery to quickly create a loop to put the curtain rod through.

need: curtain rods (2 for the kitchen, 1 for the dining room), wooden blinds (3 for the living room, 3 for the dining room, 2 for the bedroom)

Project #5 - headboard

The boy and I no longer have to sleep on a sloping rickety old bed (sorry gram, I love your bed but I think you might have cursed it since we are living at sin in the moment) but we don’t have a headboard anymore, I am going to try my hand at this not as fancy but the same idea and cover it in a fun blue and white ticking stripe fabric ... again using a staple gun and keeping to my strict no sewing policy

need: fabric, board, batting, staple gun

Project #6 - the kitchen cabinets

I love my kitchen, I love everything but one thing ... the horrible "wood" paneled cabinets that adorn it ... I found this post a long time ago about primer that sticks to everything and I am finally feeling brave enough to try it ... thankfully this expense my landlord will pick up the tab on ... can I tell you I love living in an apartment where I can do what I want ... its the best of both worlds.

need: primer, paint, new knobs.

Project #7 - hanging dishes

In my constant scouring of blogs I always love when people hang plates up on the wall ... it looks so fun and I like that it doesnt have to be exact (I am not a big fan of exact ... all things hung up by me in my house are not measured or centered). I never knew though how they hung them and it always seemed like a big process I didn't want to start. WELL ... today I found a simple way on the same blog as my pallet bed (I love this women's blog BTW, its on my daily read now she always has the best projects and good advice on sticking to your creative goals while balancing life something that I am realizing is very important) I need get on thisand start hanging up plates, i am thinking in the kitchen ... I need a change in there.

need: disc adhesive plate holders, some more fun vintage plates

Project #8 - my paper lantern

OK this project is almost done, I just need to get a few more coffee filters to finish up the top and I can cross this off my list (can you believe this is made with coffee filters)... I can't wait to hang this puppy up ( I found the how to here and although mine isnt as totally perfect as hers I really like it!) and see how it works ... Marc has decided its totally girly but I am going to ignore him and try to put in the living room.

need: a few more coffee filters

phew ... I am tired to just writing this ... time to get to work and I didn't even mention my cork boot mat what have I gotten myself into this winter ... updates to follow!

Blog Envy

My addiction with design blogs feels like a double edged sword, on one hand I love seeing how people decorate their house, the latest fashion trends, and getting great DIY ideas that I someday hope to finish but at the same time it makes me sad that my small little blog isn't more and I see all these great ladies doing so much inspiring and creative things I feel like I am falling a bit short ... so maybe I need to take this envy and stop wishing and start doing.  My goal for this winter is going to be to post at least 3 times a week and find a template and a name that I really love ... ok ready, set GO!

Hunting

I have decided this fall my must have piece is a new pair of old boots. Sadly, my search has turned up either too small, too big, too expensive, or too worn ... but I have no doubt I will find my pair by the time the temps drop!

Stirred

It's dangerous that Artifaktori is on my way home from work. Last week I scored these great vintage swizzle sticks, there are some good ones in there, a TWA one, the Tokyo Hilton and tons of other great lounges that feel like they are straight out of Mad Men.  They are the perfect addition to my boyfriend's cocktail books and look great on top of our bar!

Birthday

For my 29th birthday (when did I get old is what I want to know!), my mom gave me a bouquet of dahlias from a stand up in Maine. When I got home I figured out a use for my old bottle collection.
